SL video crashes to desktop

I have trouble watching videos. every time one turns on, it crashes SL to desktop, yet other people can watch it fine in the same room. Here's what I've done so far:

uninstalled and updated video card drivers
uninstalled and reinstalled SL

I have quicktime pro on my computer.

System specs:
AMD fx-55
Sapphire x800 XT PE vid card
1 meg ram
two raptor drives in a raid-0

This system is water cooled, and has good power, so that is not an issue.

Any advice on what to try next?

You don't have different versions of Quicktime installed do ya? Might try uninstalling and reinstalling Quicktime and SL. Then again it tends to crash me occasionally too so I quit messing with it a while ago.

Have you updated the motherboard drivers for your VIA motherboard? Looks like the AGP driver in particular is from 2003. Their chipset driver package is available here:

I hate to say it, Lee, but your implementation of Quicktime is buggy and that's that. Both my system and my wife's system both routinely (yet unpredictably) crash *often* when trying to play movies. Some LSL calls are worse than others (meaning they will more often crash the client).

My machine is totally different than my partner's stock Dell system. Yet one or both of us can crash when we try to play a movie, at least if the movie play is being triggered by an LSL script. When we load up the URL the hard way, by editing the land's media tab, and just use your stock movie control, we crash the least often.

I'm not the only one with this problem. A friend of ours from boston gets crashed almost each and every time we try to play video on our plot. So that's three people right there, just in my small circle of friends. Three people with totally different computers.

I'm pretty sure that Captain Barmy has submitted a slew of bug reports on this stuff. Any feedback or eta on fixes for this?

Today I started working video into my new project, and it crashed very often. Usually, if I set video to not scale, I can change the video URL and get it to work, then swap to scale. Otherwise, I crash almost every time. Definate bummer, as my new project depends on video.

~.~ changing a quicktime stream usually ends up in a crash to desktop for me to, usually take 3-4 stream changes and say hello Desktop.

Yer, changing url manually usually safer then to have a script doing it, the few times i tried anyway (dont own land :p)

Quicktime in SL is for me anyway pretty new future, i want to see it work as much as you guys but i expect it not to be fixed in months yet.

Quicktime 6 seemed to work well with SL without crashing that much but when I used Quicktime 7 it crashes alot when trying to play a movie. I think it is a compatibility issue between SL and Quicktime 7. Not sure if that is it but I had no problems with Quicktime 6 before updating to Quicktime 7.
