Tried to login by using the direct url.... nothing..

I tried shutting all background programs down ( I use END IT ALL) .... even my norton and such...... click the exe and nothing

i've rebooted 3 times..... still won't start..... went to properties and "find target" clicked the exe directly and nothing.......

1.05 gigahertz AMD Athlon XP

512 MB Ram

NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440 SSE

The Second Life grid is offline. We expect to open service to all residents shortly.

As Garth said, Second Life is not compatible with Windows 98, Windows 98SE, Windows Millennium, or any version of Windows except 2000 or XP.

New versions mean many new changes, including changes we intend to make things more stable and compatible for the users we support (2000/xp). This often breaks the rare 98 user that had a chance combination of hardware and software that happened to work on the previous version.

As always, to ensure you can always run Second Life in the future, you must meet the System Requirements.

Get XP Home. Double check to make sure your hardware is compatible and that it meets the minimum requirements. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/home/default.mspx

OEM comes installed with new PC's you can't buy that.

XP Professional is overkill for a home PC. It has enhanced networking and allows you to log in to a domain.

Good luck!

any version of XP will do. Go to Microsoft web site to see the diffs between Xp's.
OEM is fine as well but offers no support from Microsoft...thats why its cheaper.
