i downloaded the trial yesterday, i was ingame for maybe 45minutes, seemed fine, newbie area that is... i went to the mainland and within 5minutes i was unable to move, talk, etc... i could rotate my avatar, zoom in/out, etc... but i couldn't physically move in any direction or have my chat display. this now happens everytime i login, and since i cant go back to the newbie lands, there is no way to test if it is the location or not... going "home" is exactly where im freezing up at. live help doesnt work of course, cause i cant send messages... sometimes i notice 100% packet loss and it is saying my bandwidth is 40-80kbps.... im on a 1.5mbps dsl line up/down. ive played mmo's for 8 years and never had a problem with any of them like this, no matter what setup/connection.
system specs:
P4 HT 3.06GHz overclocked to 3.46GHz 1024MB PC2100 RAM (Corsair 4x 256MB) ASUS P4SDX/J Motherboard (SiS Chipset) Windows XP Professional SP2 <-- has made my computer much better, though many people swear that it causes more problems. ATI RADEON 9800XT PRO 256MB (also a GeForceFX5200 Ultra 128MB for troubleshooting) Audigy2 ZS Soundboard
Fujitsu Speedport DSL Modem (Verizon DSL *shudder*) NETGEAR Gateway Router RP614 v2
ALL DRIVERS UP TO DATE!
i've tried reinstalling the game, didn't help at all. same problems right off the bat. what gives? it's going to suck to have my trial expire before i even get to play the game...

If its any help I ditched my ATI Radeon 9800 for a GeForce 6800 and the improvement is massive. This game doesnt seem to like ATI cards for some reason.

I run an ati 9800 pro with the latest drivers, and have had none of the "ATI" problems. I highly doubt its the video card, more than likely, its some other driver/hardware issue causing the problem

I have an ATI 9800 XT with the latest drivers and have had no problems at all. Great performance on SL and other graphics intensive games (such as Doom 3). Only problem I had with the new drivers was with java. Parts of my screen would go black if I hit a site using java applets. Turning off antialias solved it. -tito ps. got to http://www.dslreports.com and have your line quality checked. The symptoms you describe sound more like packet loss and/or lag more than anything else. I had a similar issue with Comcast for the last few days. I went from 3MB to 127K and horrible lag.
