Stipend estimation?

My stipend is always estimated to be L$500, but its always the normal L$300 as it should be, if I have understood everything right. But why does it estimate it to L$500? Shouldn't it check that "oh yes Kratax should have L$300, so lets estimate L$300"? Where does the additional L$200, that I will never get, comes from?

My stipend is always estimated to be ...

Estimated stipends is a piece of history that LL just hasn't kept up to date. It was only useful back when we used to get a bonus for our ratings. The ratings bonus was variable depending on many different factors. There really isn't any need for a stipend estimate now, since it will always be the same.

But apparently LL has left it in and not kept it up to date as the main stipends have been reduced from $500 to $300/ week.

To expand on what Shack said:

When I joined SL as a premium in May, the rating bonus had already been done away with.

The stipends for Premium members were locked in at a fixed rate of 500L/week (and still are). The stipends for Basic members were 50L/week.

On June 6 (affectionately known as 666) Linden did away with the stipends for new unverified basic players. It's my understanding that one still exists for Verified Basics but is a reduced rate, the amount of which i do not know. And I also have heard that Basics who joined before 666 still get the 50L. But i don't know this since all my friends from that time are premiums now.

Around July 2006, Linden decreased the weekly stipend for anyone who became a premium member after a certain cutoff date, from 500L to 400L.

Linden dropped it again from 400L to 300L a few months later. The official reason was to decrease the supply of L$ flowing into SL.

To further complicate the formula, it is my understanding that if one is a premium with a higher rate, and that person downgrades to basic, and then upgrades to prmium again, their stipend will be the 300L rate when they come back.

Everyone who joined before the july cutoff, still gets 500L. Everyone who joined before the other cutoff still gets 400L. As Shack said, that's just linden being a tad lazy... not updating the wording of that.... but, i'ld give them the benefit of the doubt because stipends can be different based on when one joined SL as a premium, and it might be too difficult for them to code that variable rate in.
