Since recently upgrading to a new computer, I've forgotten how to fix this problem: When trying to watch streaming video in SL I either get the Quick Time logo or just a black screen. I have a 'stand-alone' version of Quick Time 7.1.3 (without the iTunes googahs.) My video card is nVidia GeForce 7900GS PCI Express x16 256 MB with the latest driver version 93.71. MY computer is Dell Dimension DXP061, Intel Core 2 CPU, 6600 @2.40 GHz, 2 GB RAM. MY OS is XP Media Center Edition 2002 w/service pack2. And I recently uninstalled/reinstalled QT and downloaded NET.Frame 3 to see if this would help...it didn't. When SL first got streaming video I had this same problem (with my old computer) and I found a fix in the forums that worked. But I'll be danged if I can't find that post! Guess that was a long time ago. Sorry if this is an 'old worn out question'. But I swear I spent *hours* searching the forums to find info on this problem! Any help is much appreciated!

I'd guess that you need a set of CODECs for whatever format movie you're trying to see. Also, flip through the tabs in your QUICKTIME preferences...there's some 'instant on' and streaming speed options in there. I'm on a Mac or I 'd be more specific.

Know of any good codec packs out there?

Well...it must be a codecs problem. Nothing else seems to be working. Does anyone know of a great codecs pack out there that kind of covers all the main ones? Thanks in advance for any more help!

Looks like no PC user is gonna volunteer. Try this: http://www.free-codecs.com/Codec_Packs.htmat the office, I use a PC...I believe I installed the "K-LITE" pack that you'll see on that page. It claims to play 99% of everything!

D'OH! In SL preferences, there's a tab for Media. Do you have the 'allow videos' check marks tic'ed ON? Sometimes, I forget the most obvious question.
