This really needs to be defined and addressed. Does this mean that people will lose their inventory and possibly their Lindens?

Please update the blog, that's our main source of information and we shouldn't have to wait the couple hours that's 'normal' for us to have some information other then 'working on it' posted. Please provide an EXPLANATION of what that particular failure means.

Scaring the hell outta me here *lol* Tried to log back in. Logon page says grid is up and over 11K logged in, but then get 'down for maint' error.

I think they should look into this. CCP who made eve online took this route because of SQL database load issues. Lets just say they got 2 of the Ramsan 400s ... they clam they are only at %43 with almost 40,000 people online. :/

I am sorry you cant use disk for SQl servers when you have a load like this. It just does not work.

Almost 30'000 was the most they ever had. Still impressive, though, and yes the hardware is good. :)

Most likly (though don't qoute me on it) a server or hardware on a server crashed. NOW knowing how important assest server is (more important then sims) Most likly there is what is called RAID which does an IMMEDIATE BACKUP of all data saved. One version works by example of if you saved a document to your PC to one harddrive there would be a second IDENTICAL (even in hardware) harddrive saving that file as well. The only way these might not work is if the server itself caught on fire, blew up, got swallowed in an earthequake, pony linden got hungry and ate it, etc. Now most likly since they are talking to a vendor about hardware issues. It sounds more like the "other" parts are failing (Pony Linden did a no no with bodily functions and a assest server motherboard). Most likly these are going to be as posted in a blog a "card failure" where a raid controller failed and obviously this causes those raided harddrives to stop working (think of a circuit breaker box...id it fails..you just need to get it fixed..NOW).

Also think this. The grid monekys were the first call LL makes when stuff goes south. As highly skilled as they are they can't know everything about technology (ask anyone that has worked Help Desk), some gear is to dangerous to replace on the fly, and/or require differently certified people to work on. That is when "vendor calls" are made. These can result in "0-day fixes" where vendors will send someone out in thier birthday suits if needed to get stuff repaired or could be treated as a normal call. Either way rest assured I bet LL is doing what they can to resolve the situation....and shaving the grid monekys to prevent hair pulling.

Would be *nice* if an official post from a LINDEN who knows the status of the servers could make a post to put our minds at ease.

I just need to know if my inventory and Lindens are gonna be there when i log in.
