I am recieving a lot of problems (one after the other) logging in to Second Life. I thought that in order to solve everybody's problems, there should be a first-time setup.

After starting up the client for the first time, a setup should appear giving the user all the options they would want to set so they can personalize the client. Then, the client applies the changes and automatically applies any changes in firewalls, anti-virus programs, etc. before running a test on the connection.

By using this feature, all problems are fixed automatically so a user doesn't have to spend a day or two figuring out how to set each firewall.

This wont ever work due to how most most antivirus/firewalls wont let you do this as they will instant go suspicious when a program want to alter their settings , this action can even get them flagged as trojans , and usually will silent block them or give user a popup/warning.

Changed .exe , timestamp, versions , they will trigger a change event on progs that spose to protect pc.

This is just one of the things you as a pc user should know when you use a pc online as most autoblocking programs usually give you
more grief then they are worth.

I can just see what would happen if SL where to try to alter another program settings, forum postings would be

" help my virusprog says SL is a Trojan"

" dont install SL !!! its a virus "

" i didnt change anything since last update and SL wont start suddenly after update "

oh wait this happens every update cause some progs autoblocks them when the file changes.

The only time i seen (windows anyway) a program to add to safelist on firewall has been windows xp firewall (wich is blah).

Some ways to fix annoyance with firewalls , dont ever let them silent block anything (go into options change it),

After update and it wont start ?
remove Secondlife from firewall and start SL again , firewall should pop up and ask if it can connect again.

Well, then there must be changes to be made. The least that can be done is to help with the annoyances. Read this idea:

Instead of automatic fixes, the options appear and then the client autoatically detects the firewalls blocking the program and gives instructions to the user of how to unblock the program. At least the user doesn't have to search online for instructions and manuals to find out how to run Second Life.

Please reply on this idea.
