Very frustrating

Greetings,

for the past 2 days I have had the worst luck in staying connected to SL. last night was terrible. the progran shut down 12 times in a 40 min period. I have the latest drivers for My pc and before any 'upgrades' it was working fine, so I dont think its My computer/vid card. I thought it was My sound, because right before I was booted the audio would chatter then poofers. well I logged in with audo muted.. and lo and behold I was booted again.. so its not my sound. has anyone had this kind of problem as well? and if so does ANYONE know a solution?

Just curious...is the sound 'card' integrated into the motherboard of your computer? If so, it sounds like there may be an overheating issue going on. According to several posts on the forums, the 1.7.x series of patches make people's systems run hotter than normal.

If your system is more than a few months old, you may want to pop the case lid off and inspect for dust bunnies around the power supply and fans. I've had almost the same thing happen to me with a system that had integrated sound - it would run OK for a while, then the sound would crackle and flake out, then the system would die.

A quick blowing out with a can of compressed air did the trick.

I had recently cleaned out My pc from the ever present dust bunnies.. but I will try that again..I will also try to adjust My fan position to see if I can get the audio cooled better.. and you are correct it is onboard. maybe I should also consider getting an actual audio card and disabling the onboard audio.
