FPS & GRFX card poll

Okay, i'm one of those types with a fairly good gfx card (nvidia 6600GT), hit hard by the 1.7 update.
I'm very curious how much of the population is hit by the FPS troubles and if it's related to gfx card brand.

Please 'vote' for your configuration and experience....

To clarify:
high level systems mean a pentium > 2.6Ghz /athlon (64) 3000 processor, at least 512MB memory and a med/high level gfx card. (Nvidia Geforce 6600 or better and comparable...)

(You have a med/high level system if you could play in 1.6 at a decent framerate (15+) with goodies like local lighting/shiny, draw distance of 128+ etc...)

I assumed that most people usually have 'even' systems, either with mostly med/high level components or mostly low level. If your system doesn't fit any of the descriptions well, please vote which you think is the best.

NOTE: Hehe I wrote all this out before you added your poll sorry. :D

Nvidia GeForce 6600 GT 256MB PCI-Express - Driver 81.85
8Mbps download/768 upload
1.5MB RAM

I experienced the same Greystorm when 1.7 first came out as everyone else did. However after the first few days and patchs I have been fine. There has been some delay with certain textures. Example, if I make a prim to display a photo it can take 30 seconds or more for it to appear, not only for me but for everyone who is looking at it as well. Then all of the sudden it rezzes for all of us at the same time.

I generally have my DD set at 100 on the mainland with no problems (FPS 20+) except if the SIM it self is having time dialation issues. On private islands I can set it as high as 400-450 with no drop in FPS (20-35+)

The one thing that has been killing me lately is Local Lighting. Even at a DD of 64 on the mainland I can get slammed down to 1 FPS at times. Not so much a problem on private islands but still a noticable drop below 20 FPS. I have everything turned on but shadows, with all settings and sliders at maximum.

Hey Damanios,
Good job man. Glad to see a user driven client hardware evaluation.

pc 1 - x2-4800+ , 4gig ram, 6800gt 256, driver 81.85
fps 10-15 (25-30+ before)
pc 2- 64-3500+ , 2gig ram, 6800gt 128, driver 81.85
fps 10-15 (25-30 ish before)
pc 3- fx55, 2gig ram 6600gt 128 , driver 81.85
fps 10-15 (20-30 ish before)

thats averagish, aka im not ;
; in sky , i get neat fps up there tho.
; avoiding people but then again im not near 25+ avatars either

Fps is pretty "ish" , but it can drops sharply to <5 on all my pc's.
Private , 1 sim islands, my fps skyrocket :),, why you think i avoid mainland <.<

Usually on a 5/2mbit

Normal setting for me , unless i build or in 1 island sims, then i bump up with local light, as it rarly hurt me as much as several sims near do.

I'm going to vote substantial loss because of the things you dont really notice, like if you stand on the edge of a sim you used to be able to shoot up into the hundreds of fps client side, now this is possible if you log in there but eventially the client seems to get bogged down and my limit seems to be about 45 even with all rendering turned off except the ui.

I've also noticed a higher level of cpu usage which can cause local network packet to be delayed to the router which causes higher pings to the sim and therefore the same kind of dilation lag we have been seeing on the sims before the 1.7.3 patch

Also when you open the finder and stream in the database for events etc it totally eats up cpu time causing fps to drop with ping times sent flying

Im also seeing the asset server issues with both uploaded images, fetching images from the inventory to display or paint and also displaying images on profiles of via the various finder menus, they seem to take 10-20 seconds to show and on occasions they just dont show at all, this also goes for items in world especially objects that are either small or at the edge of your draw distance.

Some rendering weirdness i've seen is that show updates doesnt seem to function, and that some settext that is on objects behind and above you (20-30m) away will appear infront of your camera.

nvidia 6800gt 256 Agp (81.85 and 81.87beta), athlon 3500+, 1Gb ram, win xp pro
Now 25fps before ~ 35fps (shiny and anistropic, draw 160m)

Results? The more prims and avatars, the more the game chokes. Sandboxes and empty lands run smooth - no matter if there are trees and a lot of them or not. But add a house, road or wall and everything goes jerky. My avatar gets tossed around, stops responding to controls, even if I set bandwidth to 510 before and shut down everything that'd impair the connection. I'd be worried if the bandwidth bar was red or yellow when that happens - but no, it lays low 'n green, like it doesn't give a crap about the fact it HAS to download a bunch of textures someone splattered on the local prims. So I don't know if it's due to my connection (my friend has a worse computer, but faster connection and SL runs noticeably smoother on same settings) or the mess on SL server.

3000+sempron Nvidia sound/video, 512mb ram, All performance options turned off,

objects detail mid, tree detail none, av detail full with debug activated and clouds and particles unchecked.

Usually uses a wolf av and i tried switching to a human to see if it ran better but it oddly lagged more, especially in the smokey sim of all places.
