Hi,
For some reason my frame rate keeps halving. Runs fine for weeks then half's, no change in settings my end and seems to always happen on a Friday or last instance Xmas Eve.
I check things like my download speed, my connection, Tracert to SL sims, Ping to SL sims, all appear as normal.
Only differance I can see is within SL are elevated Ping to Sim and low FPS.
I was wondering how SL's Ping Sim stat was calculated and if there is a way to check the return route from SL server to my PC, the return/opposite of Tracert?

Are you in the UK and which provider do you use? There are apparently some that throttle usage in the evenings and other nasty stuff....

Hi Alyx, thanks for the reply
Yes in UK, ISP is Orange/Wanadoo.
Have experienced them trying to throttle in the past but this has shown up with Trace Route, delays/no responses in the pings is quiet obvious, also bandwidth tests tend to show it up.
I'm not seeing any problems with Tracert or bandwidth tests, I can download a file @ > 4meg no problem.
I suspect there is possibly a throttle on the return leg of the SL network but don't know how to test for this. I'm suspicious of this because the Stats window in SL show elevated Ping Sim stat when I have this problem

It was just an idea....because you said it's only during certain times...I don't think tracert would show the slow down, it only sends a tiny packet anyway. Do the usual speedtests show any changes then? (speedtest.net and such). It might also be pesky neighbours all on line at the same time, I sometimes have that, as several people of course share the same ADSL line it gets a little cramped.

Go to www.dnsstuff.com, They have all the goodies you need to test throughput to and from the source.
