Hello all,
I have been having a problem with SL hanging. (Only SL other windows apps are fine). It seems to happen mainly when I pan around or spin the avi around. I have updated all the video drivers but that did not do anything. I am running on an HP Media center AMDx2 dual core 4200s' with 2 Gig of ram and a ATI Radeon 1600XL with 512M of ram.

I have updated all the graphic drivers and catalyst applications, but still SL freezes. I am not over-clocking the VPU nor have I changed the OpenGL options.

I have tried setting the CPU affinity to a single processor, but that does not seem to make any difference.

Any ideas appreciated.

If you're using Windows, did you install this?
http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/content_type/utilities/Setup.exe

It's called "AMD Dual Core Optimizer" and is supposed to iron out quirks some games have with AMD's X2 processors.

What kind of freeze? Freeze as in temporary freeze of SL (can happen up to a minute in the current releases since voice), whole computer freezing (like even mouse stopping and forcing a reset) or crash (SL going down with a crash message)?

The freeze is just SL. The rest of the system operates fine. The OS flags the secondlife.exe as non responsive. I have wait for several minutes and only 1 in a handful will return. I use process explorer and do not see any drop nor increase in cpu usage by the process.

In short, just SL appears to hang.

thanks

I have a AMD dual core CPU, and since the last few 'updates', despite having the AMD optimiser installed from 4 'updates' ago, when things worked fine, the freezing of the client has begun again.
I openned Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Delete) and checked in Applications, and I find 2 versions of Secondlife running, after about 20 seconds, it unfreezes and goes back to just one version running... My guess is there is a Multi-Threading issue with the client.
