A friend of mine told me about a program called DCCache I could purchase that would let me move the cache in SL to my RAM and hold it there instead or something along those lines. Anyone know where I can find this program and how I would work it?

Before you do anything, how much ram do you have?

Two gigs, plenty of room as SL doesn't drag me down a lot. I am planning to add one more stick later (I heard 4 sticks can cause trouble with certain things).

I'm assuming you have an AMD 64 processor. I had 4 sticks once and it didn't like me going to faster timings. But that is all dependent on what core you have since the memory controller is right on the CPU. The newer cores are better with 4 sticks from what I hear. If you have an Intel, then I dunno lol. From what I read about DCCcache, its for surfing the web and not for use with other programs, unless I am reading this wrong:

http://www.cftagstore.com/tags/dccache.cfm

dcCache is a powerful caching component for ColdFusion. It allows developers to cache whole pages or parts of pages so that when the page is refresh the content displayed much faster as processing doesn't have to be performed. The cache can easily be partially or wholely reset so that your site can remain dynamic with the speed benefit of a static HTML site. In practice this component has produced speed improvements of over 1000% on some of our client websites. Download the trial version of this component, you won't be disappointed.

But I think all these cache programs work on the same concept, hell even MS-DOS had it. Take system ram away and use it as a physical drive. So if you had 2 gigs of ram, and used 1 gig as a virtual dive you now have 1 gig of ram and a 1 gig drive. If you do a search you will find some old threads of people expierementing with this, from what I remember they never noticed any substancial differences in speed.

Kitsune, if you have 2 GB of RAM and wanted to set aside some of it to store your SL cache in RAM instead of storing it on your hard drive, what you need is a RAM disk or RAM drive. Click here for more information.

this sounds like old dos ramdisk , no need to pay for it tho, it works like a charm still, (winxp prob removed it from path tho) just make a fake partition with ramdisk parameter, and make SL store cache on it, woila.

Doubt youll get much speed diffrence in SL tho, games it would be tremendous helpfull (remember loading diablo1 in <1 sec :>;)

Google if you never used dos :P

The name of the program might be wrong. But the general idea was keeping the cache in the RAM instead.

Yes, I use a Opteron 180 (64bit Dual Core).

So how would I go about getting it to work with SL?
I will try and find out from my friend more info on the program and post it here.
