Hi! I recently moved and am now sharing a broadband connection over a router with two other folks. I was sharing before with one other person with no problems at all.

Now, when I log in I can't move or do anything. My user and sim pings are up in the 50k range where they are usualy a few hundred. I tried adding -port 13000 to the SL command line things and it made no difference. I don't believe it is bandwidth because even when neither of them is online, i am experiencing the same problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Specs on my 'puter: (Not top of the line, but I just bought it in July)
Dell XPS
Pentium D CPU 2.80GHz
2.79 GHz, 1.00 GB of RAM
OS Version: Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (Build 2600)
Graphics Card Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation
Graphics Card: GeForce 7300 LE/PCI/SSE2

Is it possible that one of the other people is running a file-sharing program that's taking up all the bandwidth? Most home broadband connections can be very fast on the download side (3mb+) but rather small on the upload side (768kb or less). If they have their file sharing client set to unlimited, it's possible that they are jamming up the upload side with traffic.

This can also happen if a machine is infected wth a zombie virus and is being used to spam e-mails.

I had considered that but even when both of their machines are OFF, it acts the same :(

I uninstalled and reinstalled the SL program and that fixed the user ping, but my fps is still down at about 3-4 where I used to get 40ish. I accept that i probably won't get that high on a shared connection but OMG i need more than 4fps!

I even tried turning down ALL of my settings and turning off all the fancy stuff and still nothin. :(

I seem to have a similar problem to yours, I described it here: /111/84/140317/1.html

If you get a solution, please let us know what it was...

Is it a wireless router? Maybe someone is stealing your bandwidth (intentionally or unintentionally).

No, its a hard wire router only.

Lately my fps has been slowly going up. I think my max has been about 9fps in short bursts but for the most part it is still down in the 3-5 range.

:(
