I am stuck in a hotel for the next 3 days, and I cannot get SL to connect. I was able to connect just fine from my last 2 hotels, so I am fairly confident that my PC is configured properly.
Here's what I have done so far:
Tried to start the SL client. It gets as far as "Verifying Protocol Version" and then stops with "Unable to connect..."
I called up the hotel's ISP and asked them if they blocked any ports. They assured me that they did not. I even talked directly to the tech guy and reviewed the list of ports with him. He was confident that they were all open.
Next I ran Wireshark (http://www.wireshark.org/) to see where the packets were getting lost. The client locates the IP address for util.agni.lindenlab.com and it sends a packet to port 12036. Nothing comes back and after a 5 second timeout it retries a couple of times and then gives up.
It appears that the server isn't responding, but that the packet is getting through (I am pretty sure that I would see a different mesage from Wireshark if the connection was blocked or otherwise refused).
Desperate for my fix of SL, I located a tool called Snowcrash (linked from http://labs.highenergychemistry.com/slprotocol/index.php?title=Main_Page) . I started Snowcrash and then restarted the client.
Here's what it shows me:
INFO: Resolving Agni userserver domain name userserver.agni.lindenlab.com
INFO: LL_WM_HOST_RESOLVED
INFO: ...Userserver resolved to 66.150.244.151:12036
INFO: LLCircuit::addCircuitData for 66.150.244.151:12036
INFO: Verifying message template...
INFO: Resending on timeout
I did manage to convince the ISP that I have a critical business need here, and that for the $30 per day that I am paying for this connection I really should be able to run anything that I want. He agreed and would probably make any reasonable changes if it would help me out.
What can I try next, or what can I ask him to change? Any and all ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks!
