Hey all. I am having a small problem with Second Life. The 'newview.exe' is using 100% of My CPU (Well, about 98% but the CPU useage sits at 100%) and as a result Second Life is running really badly. I am using a 2.8 Celeron processor and I have Direct X 9 installed. If anyone could suggest a possible cure for this I would be greatful.
Thank You.

This is a normal thing, Ruadh. Many computer games, SL included, like to "hog" the CPU by grabbing any spare cycle it has, on the off-chance that the game will need it. You don't notice it with most other games...I mean, who honestly photoshops, browses the web, AND plays HL 2 in window.
If you ever take a peek on a Win2K machine, you'll see System Idle Process "eating" all your CPU. It don't reammy MEAN anything, it's just how the systems work.

If youre using windows 2k or xp, go to task manager and set the process priority of newview.exe down to low (i wouldnt recommend the lowest setting, just the one below normal so that other things can grab cpu).
I set winamp to high and I can watch videos on my other VDU while I play SL on the first VDU, they both lag but its still quite usable when what im doing on SL is a bit boring .. like... script debugging *g*

I have just updated My video card drivers so I will see if that works. And as for the multi-tasking thing... I have Winamp, mIRC, Visual Basic, Yahoo, A number of web pages and whatever else open at once.
Also I know someone that has shoutcast running and live broadcasting while using SL.
Thanks for the replys.

Btw..
Has 'newview.exe' now been replaced with 'secondlife.exe' with this new 1.6 update?

as a note second life is a game and as pretty much all games are designed to hog cpu reasources 100% cpu is normal.
IF you'd like to use less then simply minimize the SL window (yes windowed mode here) and it amazingly goes to liek 10% of course it lags to utter HELL when you resize for a few moments but the hickup will pass and you can continue along your merry way.

It wasn't just the 100% CPU I had a problem with to be honest.. SL was running really badly aswell but you never know, these updated drivers on My video card might cure that.
When I am able to log in I will know!
