Blinking Flashing Objects

SL was running just fine for me but recently, objects (prims) have begun flashing and blinking. This began before and continues after the latest SL release. As an example, a very large light colored wall looks like a flashing checker board; every 10 meter prim making up the wall has its own black and white color flashing. This seems to affect, mainly, light colored things (clouds too). Sometimes if I look at the wall at certain angles, e.g. sourthernly or above 0 deg. azimuth, or zoom in, or certain other positions it goes away. And, if I keep that position and do absolutely nothing, all is ok....and then all of a sudden, is starts again.

I've search the knowledgebase and have experimented with every preference setting. No luck. Any ideas?

I have this issue on my older computer using an Nvidia video card. I dont' see it on my newer computer using an ATI video card. and in fact I didnt' see it on the older one until I updated the video drivers to the latest version. So, I conclude at least in my case, it's a software incompatibility between SL and my Nvidia drivers.

Darien, Thanks. I've suspected a video card issue...but it was running fine for two months and then, pluey. I guess the only thing left to do is reinstall SL. I wonder if I keep my APPEARANCE attributes and such...

Nothing about your avatar is stored on your machine, it is all handled by the Lindens on their end. You will still look the same.

You may not need to uninstall Second Life.

First, try clearing your cache (it's in Edit Preferences), rebooting, and retrying. It may just be some corruption in there.

If that doesn't work, try upgrading your video driver by going to your manufacturer's website.

Then... if all else fails, reinstall Second Life.

Jacques, thank you for your time. I most appreciate your heads-up that my avatar attributes are not stored locally. It took me a long time to get my smile just right ;) I tried clearing the cache and have the latest driver so.......yucky poo....I guess I know what I need to do...

when I was using an older geforce card, I had a similar problem with the flashy textures.. Go into your video card attributes, and where it shows best performance, or best quality, toggle it to best quality.. That cured the problem for me :)
Or do like i did and buy a new card lol.. :P

Jeza, that's a good idea. I seem to recall some setting like that. Do I reach it through the Control Panel > Display do you think?

Never mind (something my mom said I never did), I think I found it. Thanks again for your time :)
