It's probably something that I did. I have the basic avatars that you get at the beginning and two dragon ones, a male and a female. when I'm in my male dragon suit everything shows up fine. But if I take it off and switch to any other outfit I either show up completely black like if it just cut my shape out of the game or as the female dragon where the body works but the torso and the legs are completely black. It looks like I'm wearing a shirt and pants or something even when the Inventory is saying that I'm not. Also the Editor is all messed up looking. http://tn3-1.deviantart.com/fs19/300W/f/2007/294/4/5/SL_problem_by_razorirr.jpg

Thanks for any help that you can give.

That looks more like a graphics problem rather than a problem inside of SL . Not everything below may apply, but I'm trying to list most of the common causes in case one rings a bell or helps :).

I'm also not too sure about non-human avies, but those usually come with a special shape and a skin. Are you changing back to a human shape and skin after your non-human avie? (Type "worn" - without the quotes - in your inventory search for an easy way to see what you're wearing)

If you want to make sure you're wearing everything you should be, try Client / Character / Character Tests / Test (Fe)male (use Ctrl-Alt-D or Ctrl-Alt-Shift-D for the debug menus if you don't have them on your screen). That'll take off everything you're currently wearing and put you back into the standard avie.

In Preferences (Edit / Preferences if you're logged on), try unchecking "Avatar Vertex Program" (it's under the Graphics Detail tab) or all of the shaders entirely. Under "Adv Graphics" uncheck "Enable OpenGL VBO" if it's checked as well.

Try a Clear Cache (under Network), close SL and log back on after that. If you're still black, give Client / Character / Rebake Textures a try as well.

Finally, SL doesn't always like a multi-monitor setup either. If you're using multiple monitor, try dragging SL over to the other monitor (go through the whole clear cache and relog again) and see if that helps, or disable multi-monitor for a test.

As a last resort (or first depending on how comfy you are with it), make sure the drivers for your graphics card are up to date.

Good luck :).

thanks. It was the Double monitors. That problem doesn't seem to exist in vista but when i rolled back to XP it showed up. all I had to do was shut one off and then apply clothes and take them off and my costumes went back to normal. Its sucky that i have to disable a monitor every time i go to play but its better then when vista would crash if you had about 10 or more people in view.

thanks so much

Glad you got things sorted out :).

Hopefully Vista drivers will mature quickly enough for you to go back to that soon :(.
