I have the same problem. It freezes for over an hour on "logging in. second life may appear frozen. Please wait." until I click the quit button. I can log in with alternate avatars but just not with the one avatar, which is the one with the premium account that I use for building.
Uninstall second life, clear the second life system folder manually, reinstall the most updated version of sl, clear the cache before logging in again. It will still freeze but when you contact tech support you will save these steps. Tech support will still stall you. I've had this problem since Sunday.
It sucks that they are giving me the runaround because I have a real life job building and coding in second life for my university. If I can't code, I loose my job. Also, the project will loose funding and the university will drop both islands because we are still selling the university on the idea that second life has value. We can't do that without being able to use my avatar, because it has things in it's inventory that I can't work without (textures, code that took months to write, etc).
LL tech support sucks.
Also, getting in touch with them is impossible. I have to use the ticket system to do this because I can't get into the chat system. Before I did that I tried getting support in world using my basic account alt. They were no help at all on help island public, and I couldn't get to the real help island because my premium account is hosed.
Maybe the administration at my school is right, maybe second life isn't worth it. I could really use the work study money, though. If it's not fixed by this weekend I'm going to have to report to the board that second life has serious technical issues, which will probably kill the project.
