I'm experiencing crashes literally between 2-10 min every time I login. I'm currently running XP pro with SP2, and I've updated all my graphic drivers, as well as tested the hardware and I can't figure it out. I'm assuming this is a very nasty bug with SL. I've tried reinstalling SL several times, even tried using the test version. The crashes freeze the entire machine forcing me to reboot, I've been trying to find information about this and with little help from the secondlife website I decided to post.

Has anyone else been experiencing this problem?

Thx

have you experienced crashes or freeze-ups before ? Is there any system or game message displayed ? What tell the logs in your Windows Events Viewer ? and so on

Second Life Crashing too

Experiencing similar thing, and the system messages are pointing to my display driver ATI Radeon HD 2400 version 8.411.0.0 - Windows Vista 32bit

Just SL crashes not the whole computer.

Based on other messages, I'd say SL is not playing nice with ATI drivers right now.

Yes, i understand that ATI users are generally having the majority of problems with SL their drivers are not developed sufficiently for Vista yet; same is true to an extent with Nvidia my vista machine with a 7600gt card is next to useless with sl at the moment.

Despite this some with similar set ups seem to be running fine on Vista......

Using XP for Sl for the forseeable.........

Based on this topic I will also post that I am having issues as well. But it's not two minutes, it's not even loading clothing. I'm 99% ruth and i see no land either. Not to mention it's crashing my internet with it. I have to reboot my modem each time! What is going on?

Edit: Not on Vista, I have XP. I have been a resident since 2004. I have had no issues (besides the lag and such) since. This just started to happen last night. I logged into an Avatar with another name, then back to main... then poof, it started. I've tried to relog, reboot machine, even uninstalled then reinstalled... still same issues.

I realize this thread is over a month old, but I just bought a new desktop sporting a Radeon 2400 HD and Vista, and I'm experiencing problems identical to the OP. Crashes within 2 minutes are common. I just tried updating to the most recent ATI drivers, and the installer program on them caused my screen to go beige with stripes. I haven't tried SL since the driver update, but will report back this evening when I do.

Same with Nvidia. Its been about a week now since this latest thing started.I can log in and just sit there with nothing fancy going on, and SL will crash all on it's own. Not the computer.

Yes im having the same problem. Im having crashes about 20 times a day literally. Im getting fed up with it as well, The lindens make so much money with this game and they can't even fix the damn bugs, Once they release a patch something else breaks. This has never happend to me before. I've tried everything, messing with settings, driver updates, Formatting. All was a waste of time. How fun is a game if you keep crashing to you desktop every 10-20 minutes?

My drivers are well update as well

Mainboard : Asus K8N
Chipset : nVidia nForce3 250
Processor : AMD Athlon 64 3200+ @ 2200 MHz
Physical Memory : 2048 MB (2 x 1024 DDR-SDRAM )
Video Card : ATI Technologies Inc Radeon X1300 Series

Hi :)

Here are a few things you can try out which may cure the problem:

1) Clear your SL cache - a corrupt/badly indexed cache file can crash SL

2) Uninstall Quicktime and reinstall the latest version (7.2 at the moment) - older versions of quicktime can cause issues as SL loads it to run in the background

3) Check your Windows update history to see if any new drivers have recently been automatically installed - especially network adaptor drivers

4) Download and install Driver Sweeper at http://www.guru3d.com/index.php?page=driversweeper - Follow the instructions (Uninstall your graphics card drivers using "add/remove" programs in your control panel, rund driver sweeper, then reinstall latest drivers) - sometimes just updating them can leave old files behind, then install the newer ones. Then

5) Try testing your memory - Go to http://hcidesign.com/memtest/ and download memtest. Run it and see if it come up with ANY errors - SL is very memory intensive and may show errors in the memory that are not normally aparrant. (although bad memory would normally just give lockups/BSOD)

6) Try taking the side off your PC case and test again - hot machines can act strangely and again, SL is CPU & graphics intensive - it can cause crashes & lockups.

I hope one of the above helps you - if not, please state your machines spec, including motherboard, cpu, graphics card etc and we may be able to come up with something else :)
