Does anyone know if SL supports Intel 945 chipset family. My friend is having a hard time, crashing all the time. Thanks

Intel GPUs and SL are not a good mix.
Intels are also listed as unsupported graphics cards.

Unfortunately, if your graphics card includes any of the following words, it's NOT compatible with Second Life:

* nVidia cards that report as a RIVA TNT or TNT2
* ATI cards that report as RAGE or RAGE PRO
* ATI cards that report as RADEON 320M, 340M, 345M, or similar model numbers
* Intel
* Intel Extreme
* 3DFX
* RIVA
* TNT
* SiS
* S3
* S3TC
* Savage
* Twister
* Rage
* Kyro
* MILENNIA

The 945 chipset should be fine, but the integrated graphics that often come with it are not. If you have a slot available for a video card, installing one will give you much better SL performance.

yea tell that to the dozens of ppl every month that wake up to their intel video cards nolonger working with SL

intel does not fully support open gl OR direct X

intel cards are mostly software emulated, so even if you do get it to run the performance is extreamly low due to your cpu doing all the work + the image quality is quite laughable

intel 945 my god that thing is aicent they still sell it as new but the chip has been around a really long time (in computer time) it sucked on my HP celeron 400mhz with games that didnt evern require hardware 3d, and im shure it still sucks now

as stated above get a supported card, but first see what kind of slots you have

agp minimum nvidia geforce 6600GT
pcie minimum nvidia geforce 6600GT

normal pci, doesnt matter, its gonna be slow, saw some ati radieon 9550's for 17 bucks at newegg a few weeks back

"The 945 chipset should be fine" yes its true - this is not a vid card , this is the part that controlls, pcie,usb, serial, i/o's, sata' ectectect, however that chipset (motherboard) that usually comes with integrated IntelĀ® GMA xxxx graphics wich is crap.

copypaste happy
The Intel 945G Express Chipset delivers outstanding system performance through high-bandwidth interfaces such as dual-channel DDR2 memory, 1066/800 MHz system bus, PCI Express* x16 graphics port and PCI Express x1 I/O ports, Serial ATA 3.0 Gbps and Hi-Speed USB 2.0 connectivity.

and here is where it suck >

This chipset includes the IntelĀ® GMA 950 graphics core which provides responsive graphics performance and stunning video playback.

So because you have a intel chipset doesnt mean you cant upgrade it with a pcie card, just dont try the onboard video card , it will be crap :> (they always are -.-)
