I was wondering if its possible to make non active windows less transparent? Like if I have inventory and chat history open, which ever one i have clicked on, becomes visible, but then the other gets really transparent.
Is it possible to make the one that is not active, less transparent?
It just makes it hard to see things at times.
Thank you, Jacii

I'd also like to see a way to do this. Non-focused windows are a little too transparent for me..

Hi... before we begin: *** DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK *** 1. Go to the Second Life application folder. On a Windows system this would typically be "C:\Program Files\SecondLife". 2. Go into the "app_settings" subdirectory. 3. In there you will see a file called "colors_base.xml". MAKE A COPY OF THIS FILE (and store it somewhere safe.) 4. Open the "colors_base.xml" file. 5. Around line 37, you will see a line containing this text: <DefaultBackgroundColor value="62, 62, 62, 140"/> 6. The last number (140) represents the opacity of the unfocused window. The higher the number, the more opaque the window will be. Minimum value = 0 (totally transparent), maximum value = 255 (totally opaque.) 7. For example, to make the unfocused window completely opaque, change the line to read: <DefaultBackgroundColor value="62, 62, 62, 255"/> 8. Relog. <insert-usual-disclaimer-here>-peekay

I would imagine so, but I don't have a Mac to test with. Let us know if it works! -peekay

About the Mac: If you'd like to try this, you'll find the file in the Second Life Application. (Show Package Contents). Then, the file is at: Contents/Resources/app_settings/colors_base.xml
I might test this later on. I think the worst that can happen if you try this, is that you have to redownload SL... but again, USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. LOL

Works perfectly. I made a backup, change the number to 200 and now I can finally read it properly.
Thank you all

It just occured to me that Macs use a different gamma curve than PCs... (1.8 vs 2.2 respectively) which might explain why the adjustment might be necessary for Mac users.
Maybe LL should consider changing the default transparency values for Macs, or at least pick an in-between value like 180.

You should not be editing the colors_base.xml, instead you should be putting your changed attributes into colors.xml The two files share the same format and colors.xml is intended for user editing.
