I can't get my newly created shoutcast stream into my parcel in SL. I know how to do that with other streams. I have rented server space at serverroom.us, uploaded a self-made mp3 (getting my first ftp going on a mac, which was nother experience), uploaded that into the "content" directory there. The result is the following: http://SusiSpicoli.serverroom.us:8522/content/WickedVillage.plsThis plays fine in winamp on a PC, and in itunes on a Mac, but when i paste this into my SL audio URL thing, nothing comes out when clicking on the MusicControl play button. What have I done wrong? Thank you for any suggestions, Susi

Susi,
One way you can gurantee to get your streaming stuff working is to take out an account with UltraStream.co.uk - as well as selling streaming radio, we at no extra charge come into Second Life to ensure your package is working OK on your parcel.

fast reply

the fact that you reply this quickly on a "bank holiday" weekend is already a good sign. If your customer service is as fast as your reply, you are my man. I'll try it out. Susi

looks complicated

Hmm, i looked at your website, the package, while a bit more expensive than the US hosting but what can you expect with the strong pound, but my main concern is that it looks awfully complicated. Why do i need iceast, mounts, and all that?
All i want is: - upload an mp3 i made to your server - get a URL that i can paste into my SL land parcel to play it.
How do i do that?

I give up. Does anybody have any idea how to host an mp3 file (not on my computer, on a server at a hosting company like serverroom), then stream that into my SL parcel? this seems as basic and simple as requirements get. Two professional hosting companies and their live help have not been able to answer that question. I think i'll have to cancel my serveroom subscription because it doesn't do the job. Is everybody else only live dj-ing from their own computers? NObody just wanting to host a stream on a server? The hosting companies tell it's Lindenlab's problem, and Lindenlab, well, they don't say anything From: Susi Spicoli I can't get my newly created shoutcast stream into my parcel in SL. One thing you should know is that mp3 files are self streaming - that is if you merely point to one on a website, any decent mp3 player (SL client included) can play it instantly, while downloading it at the same time. Long story short; if your hosting site also gives you a website, put the mp3 into your website, and point your parcel url to the mp3 eg: http://mysite.com/one.mp3and that 'should' work. If it doesn't, you're no worse off..

solved it with some nice help from Linden Live help. The trick is to find out what's behind the playlist file, .pls. SL doesn't take that. If you download it and open it in a text file, as it's actually documented in the help function, you find either a numerical URL, or as in my case, the same, but ending with .mp3, not .pls. That's it, it works.
