Hi

Been using SL for about 2 weeks now and I am licky to have an incredible PC setup.

2 PC's with Dual Core (Core Duo2) 3.4 ghz CPU's 16GB Ram, 500Gb HDD, Nvidia Quadro 4500 cards, Dell 30 inch Flat Panels etc (I have 2 of these)

Plus I have a Mac Powerbook (Intel Core Duo2)

I am running Vista Ultimate, Ubuntu Linux, Mac OSX and the problem I have manifests on aall THREE machine so its definitely a LINDEN poblem.

THE PROBLEM ...

I log in - and normally it will crash and close the SL client pretty quikcly - last night however I was able to spend some time getting stuff done in SL before it started crashing on me.

I have downloaded the latest Nvidia drivers and this has made no change to the problem - I am paying for my membership but I am thinking of cancelling that until they resolve this as I dont think I should pay for something I cant use.

I have read many of the posts here and it seems I am not alone in experiencing this problem but I really do need a solution to this problem as right now its driving me up the F*****G wall!

ANY ONE - please point me in the right direction of where I can resolve this issue. I have $500L for the person who shows me the fix

Thanks

not sure if this will help you but....

i recently got a quadro card as well because i do alot of work in 3dsmax. these quadro cards are made for workstation graphics apps and want to display every vertex posible . games on the other hand and gaming cards cheat to make things faster by not displaying every vertex and alot of other lil tricks to make things faster.

that being said you might get an idea as why SL crashes alot if your like me your display driver is crashing or not responding. i tried turning off the vertex program options under graphics detail preferences in fact i lowered every thing and turned off every thing untill i was stable which was about the lowest settings. also under adv graphics i turned off the open gl vertex buffer and if you press ctrl+alt+D to get the debug menu at the top and go to client and rendering and turn off object to object occulsion.

you can allways try third party drivers like tweaked drivers or its posible to install geforce drivers might need to do some reading and check out rivatuner. i cant remember but i thought i read something about people converting geforce 6800's into quadros and vice versa. but you might wanna read up on your exact card and what other people have done first and what they did to get there.

besides that in your nvidia control panel you have global driver settings to gear your card toward certain apps. i usualy use the 3ds max settings and when i go to play SL ill change it back to a global default. as well as my SL set on all the weakest settings. and now its finaly stable.

sorta sux since i got a 600 dollar quadro fx 1400 and its not stable in SL. but i got it mainly for 3ds max and the performance i gain there for modeling is worth it. ill try to bump up some settings and see what i can get back visualy with out crashing and let you know but so far thats your best bet for stability. good luck

::edit::

also if you run multi monitors like me you can change the settings in the nvidia control panel for single display perfomance mode which will mean your graphics card will put most its power towards the primary monitor. some real time render engines need that enabled.

I find it difficult to believe that this manifests itself across three different OS versions of the client at the same sorta crash rates, not that I don't want to believe you. If you are indeed having that much trouble equally across all the machines and OS's, I'd start looking elsewhere. Networking and connection problems perhaps, router issues, firewall problems, packet loss, wireless issues, etc.
