dell xps m1710 nvidia 7900gs 512m 2gb ram (clues on adding more ram solicited) winxp pro ( here comes the disgusting part. no laughing! : ) half a dozen nvidia-managed desktops vmware with freebsd under it cygwinx so the unix can spawn xterms etc i can run like this for days at a time. but, if i start second life in xp, within an hour i get a bsod with PFN_LIST_CORRUPT. fwiw, while it stays up, performance is fine, for winxp, the freebsd xterms (and emacs windows), and sl. i am impressed.

Sounds like RAM problem, did you change or upgrade your RAM recently? This problem is usually caused when Windows tries to reach some part of the memory that is damaged or not allocated or even conflicted with another application.
If it is not the Ram memory (try to remove and clean them maybe it is a contact issue) then I suspect might be your VMware that is messing up with windows.
