Particles rendering with a deep red colour!

Suddenly as of yesterday a well tamed field of dreams style particle garden is partly rendering in a deep red colour.

Actually 50% of the particles are red the rest are as they should be.
Also only seen if Local Lighting is on, otherwise they appear normal.
There are no red local light sources !!
I have recompiled the scripts in case they became corrupted to no avail.

What is happening ?
Is this a bug in the Sim/Client or perhaps a warning of somekind ?

Linden developers out there please help, I've had no luck from Live Help.

Sounds like you have Highlight transparent on...this is in the View menu up top, turn it off...or just do Ctrl-Alt-T to turn it off..

Lee thanks, it's at Arcata 201, 104, the problem is intermittent, which doesnt help! I've seen it happen twice today already, for about 10 minutes each time, then it goes away and they render with proper colour. Even though it only happens with Local Lighting on, it does not look like light as it only affects particles.

The other day I went to Abraxas and after I left everything in the world poofed red & blue clouds. People would walk past with little blue clouds following them...everything I touched would make huge gobs of red & blue clouds. It was frankly driving me NUTS (more so than my normal state of nut-ness) and I was only seeing it on my side. Not in world.
Oh yeah the point. Someone took pity on me and told me to click "alt-shift-u" and while I have no clue what "show updates" is...it did make my annoying floating particles go away and when I hit it again they come back. No clue if this will at all help you, it probably won't but worth a try. :)

I had a Field of Dreams do this, as well. Others didn't see it, though, just me. The problem occured a couple of days after it was set up, was intermittent for a day or two, then it stopped for no reason I could see. I've had other weird color issues with particle rendering, as well, like fireplace smoke rendering in various pastel shades . . . mauve, green, etc. The stream of smoke coming from my neighbor's fireplace would change colors at random intervals. I've also seen my editing/pointing particles, and those of others, in different colors . . . green instead of pink, for example. All intermittent issues, and they seem to be clientside. I just ignore it, along with the texture corruption I get whenever the load's heavy. I figure it's probably just my Radeon card.

Edit: btw, yeah, my local lighting was on, too.

There is a strange problem in Gualala too -- perhaps related, perhaps not -- but particle streams will FREEZE in mid-motion, and stack up. This can be easily evidenced by engaging in a lengthy conversation and hitting Enter lots. After awhile, the anomalies will become obvious. Very bizarre.

Well, we've tracked the red particles down to a light object (a money tree) that's overlighting the particles when the sun reaches a certain phase. We've notfied the QA team to see if it's something we can look into further.

Yep, Lee was great ! The little packets on the Hong Bao Money Tree are lit, just at certain sun angles the lighting calculations overlow and cause all the particles in that area to glow bright red !

Moving the tree solved the problem.
