SL kept crashing at launch with my ATI Radeon 7500C chipset. I found a solution for all that have the same problem.
http://www.driverheaven.net/patje/ Using a program called Mobility Modder you can install Catalyst drivers on systems with Mobility video cards. No more crashes and seems more stable. |

Even better, download new and readily patched driver sets from
http://www.omegadrivers.net/ Work great for me on my laptop with ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 32MB, yes 32MB is still enough to run 1.7 with a decent speed. I do have 768MB Main memory though. *X* |
