... and thus, I can't login. Really sucks, as I've promised someone I would be in tonight, and I have no other mode of contact. (Mental note.... Enhancement request: in-world IM from forum) If I go ahead and download, the installer tells me "You're already at 1.6.6.5, install anyway?" Whether I pick Ok or Cancel, I still end up not being able to login. My SL cache in my profile folder is aready deleted. So... here's my login screen: Here's what SL tells me: Here's what my registry says: Here's what I have for the installed copy of the SecondLife.exe binary: I've STFAed and WIKIed.... please help. If you have better search terms than what I used, please feel free to suggest. Thank you.

Moshi moshi Axel! That looks like an older version of SL. Please, uninstall the old one and download the newest - 1.6.8 (3) - from http://secondlife.com/download

Just so it's understood what I have done...
* I've uninstalled, separately downloded the installer from secondlife.com and used it to install - no change in behavior * I've disabled the Windows XP SP2 Firewall and retested - no change in behavior

This is a relatively common problem with the updater. Uninstall SL, then download SL 1.6.8. That should fix things for you.

Egad... I feel silly. Thanks for the help. I'm almost so embarassed I want to delete the whole thread. It wasn't a caching problem. I ran into this exact same problem yesterday... I've seen people complain about this problem before, and this time, it actually happened to me. I had the same exact symptoms as you, and when I downloaded the "newest" version from the website, it gave me a link to 1.6.6.5. I clicked reload to no avail, so I don't think it was a caching issue. I wish I'd taken a screenshot like you, because the download page offered a link for Windows users to version 1.6.6.5, but for Mac users to 1.6.8! I took the Windows link and changed it to point to 1.6.8, installed that, and I was good to go. Now the download link looks fine. Anyway, I suggest going in-world (now that you can) and submitting a bug report. The more people report this, the better.
