I am having trouble logging on to SL after installing at work. I felt the problem was with the proxy. Any suggestions for solving this problem of the office LAN?

The firewall there could be blocking the ports, if you already added the correct proxy and its still not working I don't believe anything else can be done.

You could talk to whoever manages your proxy / firewall and ask them about it.
