Grid is down and being looked after
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There is another attack on the grid, necessitating that we shut it down to log-ins and clean things up. We anticipate this process will take a couple hours, and will post here when it opens up again.
I know this is totally frustrating -- for us too. We're working with the authorities to go after the people responsible for these attacks, as you know. When I have information to share I'll pass it on. __________________________________________________________________________
This is just ridiculous. If it's not one thing it's another. Something's gotta give.

of some SL staff..to get better, faster, smarter techies to secure LL's online virtual world. perhaps an unemployed dot.com'er or 2 might be the ticket? Unless those sorts have already replied to your 'something's gotta give' post

well guys we all know the reason for these attacks. Adults missing the adult brain, Sl is a benevolent enviroment. It does not hurt anyone yet all these greifers and assorted ass*oles continue to do their frail "self replocating objects" attacks. Frankly it's rather lame and very non creative. But that being said I would suggest the lindens apply some creativty to the solution, after all if I had designed this system I would have a way to find out who created what/when and I would fry their ass so fast and publicly it would make any one else even thinking about it think twice. yes we are all free in Sl and that should never change but myself I would liike to know there is a huge heavy stick just waiting to smack the next bugger trying to take down the grid.

no no, that can't be the solution. I picked up one yesterday, shows grid down for me too. it MUST be the video card drivers. ...thats the only thing left, right? did I miss anything else?

ridiculous

I still cant believe there arent back up servers set up......like a whole set of dedicated servers that would put SL back to its last usable state (win xp has it, its called system restore)...while they work on the primary servers....This is not tremendously difficult...Many, many websites that depend SOLEY on internet users for their revenues use these type of back up systems. Yes they may be costly, but they will insure satisfied customers who continue to pay their monthly fees. I for one am only shelling out 25$ us a month, but i am still irritated by the lack of response from LL....yeah they are responding to the problem,, now how about a response to preventing it or HAVING A SYSYEM OF BACK UP SERVERS!!!!!!.... THIS IS JUST RIDICULOUS!!!!! RP
PS: Contemplating how long i am going to continue to pay for this!!!!

The thing about backup servers is, you gotta keep 'em in sync. And if they're in sync, well, they're going to have the same self-replicating object on 'em that the primary servers do. Oops. Just rolling back the database isn't a good solution because (a) everyone who built something since the last restore point is going to be PISSED, and (b) the waste of space who created the problem to begin with can just do it again.
Backup servers are a good idea but I'm not sure they'd have helped in this case. It's also a business decision -- they have to weigh the number of people who are put off by the outages against the number of people who would be put off by the higher prices they'd have to charge to support maintaining twice as much hardware.

I say Lindens labs creates a covert group, one that lindens labs is not even fully aware of or in control of, free to function without any legal restrictions..search out these little buggers, and hack them...maybe an ongoing personal DOS attack on just their pc's....maybe leak out to the public their name and address to the public..let the general public have a a little "hacking fun'..release the hounds on them so to speak...lol....im sure there are alot more programmers out there that are offended by their behavior then there are evil hackers... so let the games begin LL ! ?Can anyone come up with a good name for this group? sl is closed and i have to entertain myself somehow...lol ****this is a joke people, so please dont take it seriously and start angry posts/replies.....

From: Alaskansnowwolf Barkley all i get is a complete white blank screen now. I had that too. Just persist in the login queue and you should be able to make it through. There are also other threads on the topic like this: /108/fd/103859/1.html
