Ok, I've been using SL on my main PC but I want to try it on my laptop, a couple of questions I have:

Do I have an ok graphics card to run it properly? I've looked at the minimum requirements and it all seems in a different langauage to me! So my graphis card, I think, is: VIA/S3G UniChrome Pro IGP

Am I ok to use a wireless connection? I never lose connection and my signal is excellent, but I noticed you need a cable/DSL to use SL..

Ok I think that's it, thanks in advance!

I'm running SL on my wireless laptop. The sl requirements say that you need an intel 945 minimum - but your frame rate won't be very good. And I'd say that 1 gig memory is a bare minimum - 2 gigs is better.

No idea what that graphics chip is that you have, but I always thought what they meant in requirements is a wireless internet connection, i.e. satellite or some such. I've been running SL via wireless LAN for over a year, no problems at all. With my desktop and two different laptops.

From the system requirements page:

The following cards are NOT compatible with Second Life:

- Cards with the following branding: 3DFX, RIVA, TNT, SiS, S3, S3TC, Savage, Twister, Rage, Kyro, MILENNIA, MATROX

There's a good chance you'll have severe video issues with this laptop.

The best answer I can give is "Try it."

If it works it works, if it doesn't it doesn't.

A wireless connection is fine. I use SL on a wireless connection myself (I play in my bedroom, and the modem and router are downstairs).

I have a similiar chip in a lap top, so I tried it. Runs like a slideshow.

I run both wireless and wired sometimes at home and there is not a significantly noticeable difference. Wired seems slightly better but not enough to matter. Run wireless a lot out in wi-fi sites with no problem.

SL will not function on tethered cell phones (and most cell phone TOS's prohibit these kind of gaming environments even if it did) and apparently is not supported on satellite internet.

This may be true, BUT, if you have a cell card for your laptop, chances are very good that it will indeed work fine as long as you are in a broadband area. I played for a week with a verizon card and did NOT go over my cap. Performance was worse than my DSL line, but still quite playable.

Interesting. I've tried and it was not able to connect. This is using a tethered cell phone but its still using EVDO and supposed to be the same connection as a card.
