Im new....... and my cache loadscreen kills my SL

Microsoft windows XP professional
Version 2002
Service pack 2

AMD Duron (tm) processor
804 MHz, 480 MB of ram
VIA Rhine II fast ethernet adapter
SupraMax 56i #2 modem
37.2 GB


I disabled both my firewall and virus protection when trying to run SL. It loads like it is going to start but it always crashes at the precaching screen even if i dont have any other programs running when i am trying to run SL. I have a DSL cable modem with more the decent speed to it but the program just wont seem to open. If i could get a little help with this. (i use firefox as my web though that shouldnt make a diffrence)

(Also if there is a way to download and run SL to an external hard drive or something like that i have a 150 GB external hard drive that it could be loaded on and run from)

do you know what vid card you have, pretty sure its it's fault.

yep that would be why SL wont work for you, it wont really run unless you have a nvidia/ati card, VIA / S36 is probably a S3 card wich isnt supported.

yet another game i cannot play ohh well danke for your assistance. suppose all i can do now is to try and find a card then.

here i changed their System Req,
as anyone who been in SL for awhile know they are waaay to low.

SL Req on paper
vs
SL Req by those who actually want to do something
without looking at their pc grind to a halt
  1. Computer: Pentium III 800MHZ or higher, with 256MB RAM or more
  2. Computer: Pentium III 2000MHZ or higher, with 1024MB RAM or more (actually its closer to 2048 now)




  1. Operating System: OS: Windows XP (Service Pack 2) / 2000 (Service Pack 4)
  1. Video Card: nVidia Geforce 2 (32MB RAM) or higher, or ATI Radeon 8500 (32MB RAM) or higher
  2. Video Card: nVidia Geforce 6 (256MB RAM) or higher, or ATI Radeon x?00 (256MB RAM) or higher (ati can have issues with SL due to annoying drivers, not a big deal on newer ati's tho )

  1. Internet Connection: DSL, cable modem or LAN (256kbps downstream or higher)
  2. Internet Connection: DSL, cable modem or LAN (1024kbps downstream or higher)
Saw some free games on fileplanet few min ago actually, they collected several free ones on a page somewhere, im bored -.-;
