I hope someone can give me advice on this!
I am currently on a wireless network. I've been running SL on a computer on that network since shortly after I joined with no issues, in fact with increased performance (well, we switched from DSL to cable which helped.)
Now I am experiencing issues that may or may not have to do with running SL on wireless. I suspect that the wireless is not an issue but I'm trying to cover all the bases here.
My question is...can I hook a single machine up to the existing router with a cable without disturbing the wireless connection of the other computers on the network?
TIA

yes if your router supports (i.e. has ) additional RJ45 sockets then it should support a combination of RJ45 wired networking and wireless. If you give the model number we can of course confirm it

Thanks Katier!
As soon as I get home I'll check the model number. I do know it has at least four sockets on the back into which an ethernet cable would fit. I'm just clueless and a little wary when it comes to networking stuff so I just want to be careful.

most newer dsl modems are modem/router/wireless combo capable (ex: speedstream) Can hook up ethernet cords as well as use wireless not a prob. If it's a modem/router combo from your ISP and you don't have a comfort zone of doing this, give them a ring they will help ya set it up

Your laptop moving from wireless to wired and back SHOULD NOT effect any other computer on the network. If it does, yell at tech support for the router/modem/hub/switch.
YOUR computer on the other hand might experience disconnect problems with regards to Second Life because the computer won't know what it should send and recieve data through and because your IP address changes (you get one for the wired which is different that the wireless), you lose your connection to Second Life (though all other applications won't notice. I've seen this on my laptop when there's an intermittent wireless signal that I connect to while using SL and a solid wire connection and lost connectivity to SL). I think that just logging back in will fix the problem, but it might not, in which case, disable your wireless card and then log in.
