So , i pulls out the house im in proccess of constructing, Its four objects each made of about 50 pieces.

I unlink one of the objects, hold shift then click one certain object i want to work on,and relink the rest back as they were without a hitch.

Once im done working on the prim, i relink it back into the main object, this also works. But i realise i done it wrong, and changed the Parent prim to the one i was working on. "Simple mistake" i thought to myself, and easy enough to rectify... And this is where it goes wrong.

I do what i thought was normal practice- Unlink them all again, shift click the prim i want and have been using as the parent, then shift click again on the same prim so as i select it last. Up untill now this has always worked. The last prim selected is the parent, right? Its highlighted yellow. But now for some unknown reason, its saying "link failed, pieces to far apart".

These pieces were linked before, just with the wrong parent prim. i didn't change anything during my attempt to change the parent-all i did was deselect the prim i wanted to use as the parent, then reselect it.What have i done wrong? Is this a common problem? More to the point, how can i fix it :P lol

Any help much appreciated.

its a bug in SL, you need to replace the prim thats broken (shift-click drag) and make new, then delete old, you should be able to link it then.

I had some dealing with the unable to link a second after i just linked something, usually its a broken prim or you need to select all, unlink all, then link back , worked for several of my holo things.

I believe the link code measures 'distance from key prim', and if that's too far for ANY of the individual prims, the link will fail.

If you move your key prim closer to the logical center of the build, it will probably link properly.

You may also be able to link it in stages.... link several subgroups and then link the subgroups.
