I signed up for a free trial account today, but when trying to log on the progress bar halted at "Verifying Protocol Version" and then displayed the dreaded:
"Unable to connect to Second Life
The system may be down
Please try again in a few minutes or click help for advice and a link to the system status web page."

For the record I'm able to do a ping on util.agni.lindenlab.com

From reading all the other threads it would appear to be a problem with my firewall, but it still won't work after disabling Norton and the XP Firewall. I have a university connection and I read somewhere that that might be a problem, but I've never had a problem with programs like this before (World of Warcraft and Anarchy Online, for example, work smoothly).

I've tried a lot of things, from updating all drivers I can think of to reinstalling second life several times. Am I going to have to give up on this, or does someone have an idea I haven't thought of?
