Just got a new machine and SL won't run worth a beans. I have turned off just about every goodie and it still runs like crap. I am not looking for much just a decent frame rate so that I can do a little building.
The machine - no name from a local guy 1gig ram 250 drive c2d processor at 2ghz gseries chip set with on board ram (I know it sucks) Running xp 2 latest updates
Looking for ways to speed this puppy up without any more cash outlay. I don't know much about the on board video but what about telling it to put more ram to the video? Can I do that in the bios? Does anyone know about this? Will ad a card as soon as I can but for the forseeable future I am strapped cash wise
I have run basically the same set up with a 4 year old machine running a pentium at 3ghz, on board video and a half gig of ram and it runs rings around the new machine. No bling but usable.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks a bunch
GM

almost all onboard video is crap for anything done in realtime 3d the most important things for SL to run smoothly is video power and system ram the thing to do is to find out if you can upgrade the video in it now, you will either need too look for an agp or pcie slot if you have neither your pretty much out of luck, you could use a standard pci card, which might be more powerfull on paper, but wouldnt do you much good due to the very narrow bandwidth used on normal pci slots http://www.naplestech.com/shopcart/bus_speeds.asp

Looking at the specs of your 'new' system, against what you had before.. looks like a step backwards in the important areas CPU and graphics... You were running a 3ghz, now you are running 2ghz CPU? You should be able to allocate more system ram to the video processes with the GO series chips.. although why, I don't understand.. SL uses a lot of everything.. all you are doing is spreading everything thinly... none of which will make a difference, what you give to one, to take from another. If the MB can only run a 2ghz CPU, it's doubtful it has a PCI-E slot.. but should have a AGP (hopefully a x , leave all your system ram allocated to the system, slot in a good AGP GC with at least 256mb ram and a decent cooler (remembering you may have to turn off the MB GC in the bios).
