can I be 'invisible' to friends?

OK - I am an old timer of 5 weeks now and in SL a lot - I have lots of nice friends but sometimes I just want to log in and do stuff on my own. Is it possible to not appear on the friends list - to be invisible everybody? I have an alternate log-in/avatar and thats useful sometimes and I know I can'set busy' once I am on (and SL has announced to all my friends that I am on...

Yes, but you have to do it on a friend-by-friend basis. Open up your friends list, and select a friend you want to hide from. Below the list of friends will be some checkboxes that determine what that person can do/see as far as you're concerned.

I really wish there was an option you could pick when you logged in that temporarily hid from everybody, but that's not there yet.

...for the replay, yeah, I had forgotten that - but anyway SL has already announced your arrival by then I wonder how many people would want this feature?

No no, you misunderstand. I mean, I want a checkbox on the screen where I type my name and password that says "Make me invisible" so that when I log in, no one gets notified. I would LOVE that, because sometimes I just log on to take care of an errand for a couple minutes.

I didnt misunderstand at all - my comment referred to your suggestion for the checkbox in friends - I agree with what you said you want there to be - I want exactly the same feature!!!
