I am playing nicely and it makes a wierd sound like "Pzzziiit";(From the columns) for a moment and then freezes all my pc and have to reset it. Anyone its experiencying this problem also? Any ideas of what's causing?

Your entire pc freezes or just SL? You can't access the task manager or anything?

What OS are you using? linux? Windows XP, ME, 2000, vista?

you have other softwares (eg. antivirus) running in the background? you may want to find out where that sound came from.

So if you hit control-alt-delete, it doesn't help give you a task manager or anything?

If not, it could be a hardware issue or a device driver problem.

I would bet good money you have a failing video card. The 5200 is a very low end video card for SL and it was a mid range card when it came out in 2001 or so. It may also be the drivers for it have become stale since it is considered "legacy" and isn't a priority at Nvidia these days.

I ocassionally have the same problem, but found that when I get that sound if I wait a while, SL just crashes and I have to relog. But until SL goes down I can't do anything.

It usually happens when I am trying to scan and zoom the camera round an area too fast.

Assuming you are able to open the task manager (Ctrl+Alt+Delete) look in applications tab.. do you see 2 versions of SL running? I do when my client freezes, when it 'unfreezes' after a few seconds, it returns to just one version of sl running.... Maybe.. this has something to do with Dual (or more) cores.. I run a AMD dual core 5400+

I have set affinity to both, and just one core... no difference.

The last updates stated that they have now included better identification for Intel Dual core chip recognition.. you know what happens when something is working and they 'fix it'...... I run a AMD dual core 5400+.

The 'sound' you hear just before the crash.. maybe an overheating issue.. a dry joint at a chip/component connection can make that noise.. and so can a capacitor when it gets too hot.
