can anyone recommend something that will work with Secondlife? and some of the other newer games out there?
My budget is 100-130ish dollars.....give or take a few.

this will help identfy what type of card you need

agp vs PCI-E

standard issue PCI (old / slow)

altho alot of new cards have 3 sets of fingers like this (which is probally like your FX)

cupple of screball ones

AGP PRO
this is usually on super high end graphics workstations from a few years ago, made it on some macintosh, and most notably the Asus A7v athalon mainboard(which i happen to have too... in the other computer) but its backwards compatible with normal AGP

64 bit pci
rare on home PC's altho my old mac has one

The metal teeth thingies?

I think the one with 2 uses a PCI slot. If your PC is quite old, this is quite likely what it is.
The one with 3 is probably an AGP slot. One of the short metal thingies don't have teeth I think.
The newer PCI-Express slots have 2 again.

Its hard to tell unless the motherboard model is known, because some manufacturers split their 'metal teeth thingies'. The motherboard model sometimes appears the moment you boot up your computer.

If your PC is too old, you might have to upgrade both the processor and graphics card to get some decent performance from it. Knowing what your current specs are would help people here determine how best to help. :)

Ok, I think I might have the answer for this one. Just looked up the OP's Radeon x300 on Newegg.

The Radeon x300 is PCI-Express.

The GeForce FX 5500 is AGP.

Therein lies the problem. So, Tara, odds are you need a PCI-E compatible card. If thats the case, take/send the 5500 back & get the 6600.

BTW Guys, Good job on the pictoral view of computer Slots.
