Lost & Found - How it works???

I was wondering, when I leave an object on someone elses property does it return to my L&F because it was on specifically their land for an alotted amount of time? Or that it wasn't on my land/in my inventory for an alotted amount of time. I hope my question makes sense. Basically, what defines that it should be returned to me?

See SL Wiki Link above. Basically, the Land Owner can return your object manually at any time, the object will be returned if the parcel is full, the Land Owner can set a defined time for Autoreturn to occur, or the Land Owner may have land set up so that it doesn't return at all.
