I need to wipe my C: drive and reinstall everything. Is there anything I should do to be able to restore SL? (files to backup and such.)

Nothing at all. All of the inventory/avatar/etc information is stored on LL's servers, and will simply be re-downloaded when you connect again. Obviously any screenshots, texture images or scripts that you saved outside the game would need to be copied manually, though these are probably not an issue.
The one thing that might be worth keeping is your saved settings (graphics resolution, etc) which you can find in %APPDATA%\SecondLife\user_settings . To get to that directory just paste it into Start > Run and press Ok, I think it will work on both 9x/ME and NT/2K/XP. SL will just overwrite that file on a new install, so just put the file back in place after the install is done. Barring a major change in the SL version, there should not be compatibility problems.
