I have e-mailed support with this but thought I'd place a post here just to see if anyone has an idea how to fix this outside of waiting for the next release.

My PC spec is…

HP Pavilion zd7000 laptop.
P4 3.2Ghz
1 gig RAM
60gig HD
NVidia GeForce FX Go5700 with 128mb vRAM
Widescreen LCD integrated monitor running at 1440 x 900 pixels. 32bit colour.
WinXP Home SP2

I have reinstalled both the latest drivers and SL to no avail. Curretly SL crashes to a screen full of white checks, the one causing a full BSD which is unheard of on my laptop.

Everything worked fine prior to the last update (except for lag getting worse). The thing is with this fault is that it doesn't always happen at the same time. Yesterday it happened after 6 hours of being in world. Today it happened after 5 minutes, and now it happens at startup either before or after logging in.

Wierd.... but this mean I cannot log in without risking a crash....

Oh and one more thing, on reinstalling SL it reported out of date Intel Chipset drivers... I can't find an update for these so I'm snookered on that one. (prior releases had no issue with them)

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Seems the OEM drivers only run OpenGL 1.4 and HP haven't updated them since April 2004!!!

I've tried the NGO Optimised drivers which have OpenGL 2 and I get the same thing. Hard crashes, blue screens.... Sometimes without even logging in, sometimes after 10 - 15 minutes of play... sometimes after SL has been closed... but never if SL isn't run after boot-up..

Again, this only happened after the update on Wednesday, and the fact it happens with updated (admitedly non-appeoved) drivers makes me wonder what is going on :S

sounds like what happens when you over clock your videocard too much (aka over heating). Does it only do it with SL or does it do it with other games as well?

I have the same laptop except with the FX 5600 go. Had this exact problem happen to me too. You are not gonna like this, my second ram slot was fried, the computer would boot up fine, but as soon as I went into second life or like 10 min in I would get a blue screen and the computer would lock up. try running the game with one of your ram sticks in, see if it makes any difference, or if you only have one, try moving it to the other slot.

I hope the RAM is ok because I have finally figured that the video card part of the motherboard is dead.

The PC runs fine but the video is totally dead now. After reinstalling the original drivers it started blue screening on boot up, even in safe mode the video was shot. I think SL was just pushing the video enough to show a flaw before it finally gave up. I don't even get the BIOS come up on screen as it boots now :(

I took the extra RAM out which made no difference so I have arranged HP to take the thing back to base and see what has gone wrong. Looks like I'll be out of SL for a couple of weeks... This is the second time I've had to send it back in 4 months which doesn't please me too much.

Anyway... heres hoping for a quick fix.

thanks for your suggestions though.. :)
