Ok, here is the problem:
I am attempting to get SL to work properly on an old Compaq laptop. (about 2 years old, which is ancient for me). SL works, but not like it is supposed to, in terms of textures. The background and Avies render perfectly (if the avies are nekkid). Landscape and textures are completely greyscale (usually grey, with the exception of transparancy, which is dark grey). It is running with an ATI card (Radeon 340M)
Important System Specs: Intel Celeron 2.0GHz 768MB RAM (64MB Shared to video)
I have run the dhmod tool to update the radeon drivers to the most current version (this is one of those laptops where the radeon drivers will not work without being modded).
All graphics settings are set to lowest, with the exception of terrain detail, which is set to full (this is the only way I can see -any- detail).
Is there anyone who knows of any way I can fix this issue? Purchasing a new laptop is -not- an option.

And if the omega drivers fail then its probably worth trying out the last available drivers from your manufacturer, obviously not the newest but my old compaq wouldnt run on modded drivers only older ones.

Tried the Omega drives, very little change (although SL did seem to run faster, still invisible textures). I will try the manufacturer's drivers... unfortunatly it will cause WoW to stop running properly, but I don't think I will be playing much WoW in the near future anyhoo. Thanks for all the help, I will post my results with the manufacturers drivers.

i have the same problem- downloading the drivers off the site above were "unallowed" (it's a Radeon IGP 345M)
i'm not graphics-card savvy enough on my own- any suggestions?
i was hoping to do some late-night SL sculpting on my laptop while i was on the road...

I have a Sony Vaio PCG-FRV37. It has that ATI Mobile 345M chip in there, the Omega drivers do work but I cannot get any textures to appear in the game. I have turned everything off and set SL to the lowest settings. The only other thing might be OpenGL drivers, but those come with windows.

Same issue here

I'm trying to get SL to work on a friend's laptop, a Toshiba Satellite A85-S107. It has an ATI Radeon Mobility 9000. I've tried SL with the stock ATI drivers, the most recent drivers, and the omega drivers to no avail - I get this exact same problem. I uninstalled between each trial.
Now, this isn't a "all the textures are gray because they haven't loaded yet" issue. Everything is brown or black, without the white borders to be seen anywhere. My clothes rez up nicely, as do the clothes of others, but that's all that rezzes. If I'm outside, I'm surrounded by brown. if I'm inside, it's all black, save what looks like some stars showing through a window in my home.
I can move and walk and talk and fly and teleport. I just can't see anything but avatars and their non-prim-based clothing.
I've used every driver I can find, cleared the cache, increased the page file to an ungodly large size, and reinstalled the client. Nothing seems to work.
Any thoughts, Oh Tech Gurus?

Yes it seems that the Radeon Mobility 9000 does not like the Omega drivers past the ones biased on catalyst 5.6. Either install Catalyst 5.6 ( http://www.driverheavendownloads.net/ati.htm) or omega drivers biased on 5.6. The problem is that ATI dropped support for several older cards and this was one of them and is no longer included in the current versions of Catalyst. Personally I would recommend the catalyst 5.6 in this case. Based on experience, the omega drivers do not work well with this particular card. -DB
