Hi, I am having serious issues.
Every time I log into SL I can play for about 5-10 mins before everything starts flashing rainbow colors and then my computer does a hard reboot and complete crash. I dont have this problem with other graphicly intense games and play them at max settings all the time, only Second life produces this huge error/crash. I play in full screen mode and have a NVIDIA GeForce 6600 video card. Any idea what is up and how can I stop this horrible repeating crash?

I'm having the same problem but no rainbow effect. My computer will crash hard after 5-10 minutes of SL and I have two 8800gt's. However, I know that the rainbow effect is usually a sign of your GPU resetting. I had a problem with that on my laptop with an ATI card.

i too am having a very similar problem. At first my pc would simply just shut down or restart. Then i disabled auto restart and now im getting BSOD at least once a day while playing SL. Microsoft is saying the problem points at a device driver conflict. Maybe so, but then why does it happen only when i play SL?
Ive tested for memory isssues, ive updated drivers on everything that needed updates, bios, graphics card, ect. I even replaced my graphics card from the 7950 to 8800. Safe mode, process of eilimination, took the pc to be repair, you name it and i did it. STILL have the problem.
Anyone else who is having this issue please do reply here whether you have found a solution or not. Maybe Lindens can snoop around a bit and see if it isnt an issue with SL and Nvidia gpu or something. Hell, i dunno. I DONT want to replace my MOBO only to find out that wasnt the problem either. lol!

Are you folks on Vista? I only experience that when I use my harddrive with Vista installed. I've tried all the release/beta Nvidia drivers I can find with no change.
I get a lot of graphics driver shutdowns/resets..mostly when panning around with the view button. vertical or horizontal "slides" seem to be ok..just when i spin the view in a circle it almost instantly crashes. I also notice the Aero UI is disabled when running SL, even in winxp compatibilty mode.
my rig: E6600, 7800 GTX (currently 101.41drivers), ASUS P5B-D, Vista 32Bit Home Premium,

Sort of the same issue
04-20-2007 00:54
I got a bit of the same issue, the screen glitches (either the image seems to do a sort of mirroring, like if you unfocus your eyes, and then goes blank [as in monitor loses signal, goes into standby] or the screen just goes blank.) On a few occasions I have gotten the screen to come back on but everything is all messed up and practically impossible to read unless you move things around as patches of the screen don't display anything. But I was able to decipher the cause of the crash; nv4_disp.dll. This may not be the direct result of the crashes, but I have read of a LOT of crashes with this as a suspect.
Unfortunately I have no idea how to fix such error, or exactly what causes it... or even if it's related to the crash you guys are talking about. Point is it's a bug (another bug possibly) that nvidia people are going through that either has variations of there are several related bugs.
Someone somewhere must know something... right?

ERROR from "nv4_disp.dll"
04-29-2007 08:30
Getting an error about "nv4_disp.dll"? Its almost certainly coming from a program called, "ForceWare", put out by NVIDIA. Its notoriously buggy. Uninstall it.

Same here. Periodic full system lockup with only a reset possible. Usually happens when I am in a busy room/area.
PC is also new build:
AMD X2 3800+ 1 Gig Ram XP prof SP2 Geforce 7600GT
At least it is not only me!

Yes, same here. We have 3 PC's we run SL on. First is a notebook, which used to work fine, now after x minutes of play it either BSOD's or the SL app crashes Second is a desktop PC, which also BSOD or locks up after a few minutes Third is a high end PC we use as a Media Centre PC which the SL process keeps freezing and can only be fixed by CTRL-ALT-DEL and reloading... Seems to be quite a few bugs in the software (moreso in the more recent releases - especially the current version), and to a large extent, is unplayable at times

Same thing here, but I can't even get in. I go to the login screen and try to login and my computer resets. When it gets back into windows it has apparently recovered from a serious error, something to do with a temp file and sysdata.xml, I have tried creating different user files - nothing, try reinstalling SL - nothing, try reinstalling the graphics drivers - nothing, try installing the beta graphics drivers - nothing.
(I know it's not the best machine)
Windows XP Home SP2
AMD Athlon 2400+ (1.50 Ghz) 1 Ghz ram Nvidia FX5700 256 MB memory Nvidia Drivers 93.71 and 93.81
Anyone have any ideas?

I keep getting a hard reset whenever I get near the Bruin/Cavanaugh sims' border. The problem seems to come and go, and I almost suspect it must lie in a corrupt texture, or the actual server running the sims or something. I can be just fine anywhere else for plenty of time. Problem does not happen on wife's comp (older comp, GForce card).
XP SP2 Athalon 1.6gHz 1gb pc2100 ddr ATI Radeon 9600, 256mb (an 8agp card, though only 4agb capable on my system)
Latest drivers all around

Seeing if anyone has gotten anywhere with this yet.
I always get a hard crash. It can happen within a minute, it can happen after 30 minutes, sometimes it'll even show up after an hour, but usually under 30 minutes.
I have to physically turn off the computer because it doesn't respond otherwise. No mouse movement, no ctrl-alt-delete, no nothing. Screen just freezes. No rainbow effect here, but I'm not running full-screen.
This has been a problem for me since 1.18.1.2 (1.18.2?). I never had the problem previously.
I've tried turning down all graphic options. I've updated the graphic drivers. I went so far as to do a complete reinstall. Even after this it still locks up. Extremely frustrating.
I have GeForce 6600 256MB running at 1280x1024. SL runs in window, about 800x600. I've tried all different sizes but problem still occurs. 512MB of ram.
SL Support told me to contact hardware vendors, but once I tell them this started happening only after an upgrade of software, they send me right back to Linden Labs.

Same Issues as mentioned
10-09-2007 00:25
Ok i am experiencing the same issues as mentioned. Lock ups flickering screens etc We all know what we are experiencing.....I tried full system resore and pin checks on PSU, cleaned HD and checked ram with replacing known good unit. Even to the point of replacing my graphics card with a geforce fx7500
Having read these issues it appears to be a bug that LL have introduced. and that Nvidia chipsets are no longer supported?....
Does anybody have this issue with a ATi graphics card? maybe time to change?.....SSShhh dont tell the wife thats another £100.00 to 'play' SL
system: AMD Athlon 64 3400 Windows XP prof 2gb Ram New Nvidia fx7500 256 MB ram

The only thing I would add, is that some of the new drivers for Vista from NVidia seem to conflict with SL, especially the 8800 drivers. When changing Nvidia drivers you must completely uninstal the old one first and I use drive cleaner as well just to make sure.
I've not had any major problems with crashes but only the log in issue when I upgraded drivers, SL did not recognise them and then uninstalled and went back to my older ones.
With Nvidia, I have given SL its own profile on the Graphic Card, thats also seemed to help especially when using other applications.

I have this issue with a game called Tabula Rasa which is pretty graphic intensive. I have yet to find a solution but the eVGA tech support people told me - based on all my tests and processes that I have been through - that the issue is related to drivers software and/or game. Someone even suggested that my system is running to warm/hot and does not have proper airflow.
The closest issue I have had with SL is a few program lockups (not system lockups) and like 1 to 5-second graphic hiccups.
