Thanks for the response. I tried 1-4 before I wrote support. I might suggest you add 5) Reboot your Internet gateway/router, as this was the cure. I nearly reformatted my machine as everything else checked out ok, reload of DirectX, three separate system scans, the router configuration was clean, the wireless side of the router worked, every client I could think of worked fine *except* SL. And, even when I pulled out the sniffer, my client and the LL servers seemed to be engaged in a productive dialog.
A 10 second power-cycle of the router cleared it. This was a Linksys BEFW11S4, it is now a BEFW11S4 with a big hole through it (from Bubs' guide to hardware maintainence

Thank you for your inquiry. You might try these steps to resolve your login difficulties:
1) Open c:\Documents and Settings\(yourusername)\Local Settings and delete the contents of your Temp folder.
2) Open c:\Documents and Settings\(yourusername)\Application Data\Second Life and delete the contents of the Cache folder.
3) Uninstall Second Life using the Add/Remove Programs tool in your Windows Control Panel.
4) Visit http://secondlife.com/download and download and install the latest release.
