As some of you already know the new patch makes windowed mode the default.

Some people (Like me) will find that SL refuses to run windowed on their machines.

Do the following to set full screen mode outside of SL:

Find the settings.ini file. It should be at:

C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR WINDOWS LOGIN\Application Data\SecondLife\user_settings\settings.ini

Open the file and look for the following line:

FullSceen FALSE

If you see it just change FALSE to TRUE

If you don't see it, just add it on it's own blank line anywhere in the file. (If you want to put it where it "belongs" it goes between FocusPosOnLogout and FullScreenAspectRatio)

Save, Exit, Load SL

(Thanks go out to the #SL Efnet IRC channel who helped me get this done)

I tried that, it just defaults back to 640x480 and I cant access anything.

Same problem. I resize windows in preferences and apply, then login, defaulted to 800x600 and cant access "apply" button.

[EDIT]

Lowering the chat line gave enough room (barely) to push the apply button.

Think these might help another two lines

FullScreenHeight 1076
FullScreenWidth 1280

Which go below

FullScreenAspectRatio

I'm a bit confused by what you guys are saying.

I had copies of SL set to windowed mode before the patch on 3 computers. After the patch, each defaulted to windowed mode again, but the little toggle button at the top right of the window (near the minimize and "X" buttons) showed the window was in fullscreen. All I had to do was click the toggle and it was back in windowed mode. I didn't need to set any values in any configuration files. It worked for me on all 3 computers.

My main machine refused to load SL in a window. I'm sure it's some problem with my hardware not wanting to run it since it works fine full-screened.

There was just no way to force full-screen without loading the program. Catch-22.

The solution is posted in this thread, edit the settings.ini, change or add

FullSceen TRUE

and look for these lines and set them to your size if not set already

FullScreenHeight 1076
FullScreenWidth 1280
