Ok tech out of the way. ASUS P4P800SE MB, Intel P4 2.8ghz, 1.5gb RAM Nvidia XfX 6800GT 256mb vid card. Latest drivers from Nvidia. Now when i put certain clothes on (mostly black things) I get like lines running through my av. Like in the pics attached I put on the black leather halter and got the lines through out my torso. I get even worse lines during the load screen of SL. Like when you are logging on and the bar is filling the screen is messed up. Does anyone have any idea what is going on? Any help appreciated Trisha

Looks like your graphics card is overheating, has a bad driver, or is bad in some way.

Or you have a power problem. I'd go with thermal, most likely.

Temp on the card is not a problem. It stays well within limits of the card. This problem ONLY happens in Secondlife. I play Doom3 for long periods as well as other games and have absolutely no problems in any thing but SL.

Maybe this might help you...

I have the same configuration as you when I purchased this new computer about a month ago, my problems were auto reboot after about 15 minutes into SL... My experience in making SL stable was change to a bigger case to have 4 fans, and a big power unit over 500volts, increase the ram to about 4 gigs.. Also I did remove a piece of software which was installed with the graphics card (Asus Nvidia card) which monitors the temperature. I read somewhere I forget that it had problems with WIN XP pro.
I hope my experience can help you, or maybe give you some idea of checking what's wrong...

Hmm, I have some software that installed with the drivers that monitors the temp of the card and I run XP Pro so I will try that. I will check on what power supply I have as well. But see here is the weird thing that makes me even wonder if it is my system or not. My graphics are fine and I put on x top. My graphics go haywire as in the pics. I take the top off and things go back to normal. Now when my graphics go funky other people in world can see the funkiness as well. So it is not just a local thing to my machine. It happens with tops, pants, boots, underwear. If no one else saw it but me than I would think oh yea it is my system but everyone else can see it as well. Thanks everyone.

From: henri Jacques ... and a big power unit over 500volts ... Those would be watts, not volts. Trisha's problems would be vastly greater at 500 volts ... involving extremely bright and spectacular but rather short-lived particle effects.

Actually, the way textures in SL work is this: the base images are downloaded in JPEG2000 format from the SL asset server. They are then layered together on your computer, then uploaded back to SL. The combined skin/tattoo/clothing image is then relayed to all the other viewers. So the image can be distorted for everyone, because the image your computer is producing contains errors.

So that clears up some of my confusion and brings it squarely back to my computer. I will check the power supply than cause this has only started happening since I put in the 6800GT which I know is a power hog.

Notice it's your ENTIRE Picture getting "jaggies", not just your avatar? A card overheating doesn't usually do that, but lack of power does. I'd forgotten that.

Yeah, upon viewing the screenshot, I have to say that's definitely the power supply. A lot of people underestimate how important a good PSU is. I recommend either Antec or Enermax brand units, with as highly rated 12V rails as possible. For a Geforce 6800, you want at least 15 amps on the 12V rail. High-end Enermax PSUs have dual 12V rails, which lets them keep the cost down, while capacity and quality remain high.

We know, Henri. Really, the difference between watts and volts is like the difference between metres and kilograms. They're completely different units of measurement.

It was the power supply. I put in a Antec TruPower 430w PS and have had no problems since. Thanks everyone for your advice and help.

Texture problems
11-12-2004 10:01
I am having the same problems as Trisha. However, my screen only messes my body textures, wich everyone can see. It happens wether I wear clothes or tattoos or anything. I too have the 6800 GT and that is when my problems began. I recently got and Antec 550W True power PSU, and I am experiencing no change in the problem. Ihave the Soyo KT-400 dragon Ultra motherboard. I have been stressing out about this for well over 3 months now. All of my drivers are updated and as well as my BIOS, I have no Idea what to do.
