I'd get as far as "Connecting to Region" and then the screen never moved the status bar past the middle of the bar. I reinstalled - no joy. Uninstalled and re-installed - no joy.
What worked for me was to update my Nvidia drivers to the lastest version.
(The machine is running a Geforce 2 6600GT card.)
The next time I tried to log in....ding ding ding...winner.

PS: The version I used before was 71.ish and had been working fine, but this update didn't like it or so it seems. YMMV
