Hello,
I just wanted to know if it's possible for you to change where the game Cache everything at... I have SL installed in a different place from where the default Cache goes.
In other words, I have 3 HD's which are partitioned into 9 drives. I installed SL on F:/ and the Cache still goes to C:/, which is my reserved space for my operating system. Now, I'm running WinXP with only 500mb left, which slows down my computer considerably. When I had at least 1 gig free where the OS is installed (on C:/), everything was running smoothly.
I ask the programmers to change the Cache path, or to allow the customer to customize the path. Please, thank you for your time.
Lo Liu
P.S. I hope this issue will be fixed in a short time, considering the annoyance it causes. And, the fact that to change an install path should be very easy for the programmers. It could, for example, be an .INI file that we could use to change the path...

We've been asking for this since 2003. It would sure be nice. There is a way to set up a "junction" that causes a directory on one drive to be mapped to a directory on another, but it is rather complicated.

Yeah, but, I shouldn't have to do that. This is something simple the programmers could change in an update. It is their responsibility, not mine. I'm a paying customer, too, like many others. Lo Liu

Not really a game problem, as it just stores in Windows space...which is your windows drive \document and settings\....
So SL is asking windows to store this, if that can be changed then you can move all your window temp and SL cache to another drive..I will look and see if it can be..

It has nothing to do with the Temp Settings, it doesn't go in the Temp folders, so there is no variable to change. So, I can't do anything about it, besides, why would I have to tweak my Operating System for a game when it is the responsability of the programmers to make it customizable Since, it's just about 2 years people have been asking for this option... I agree it is an option the game can change, but they are just following Microsoft standard and using the temp area that Windows created, so can't really blame them...as microsoft made the standard, they are just using it...as all Windows apps store temp stuff there, as do alot of other programs, SL is just another one doing the Microsoft standards. And just read, sound like it can be moved, but might cause issues, try at own risk.. http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=314843

I agree with Lo... It does not store it on a standard temp. It has a proprietary "Cache" folder in it's own directory structure. That's not customizable.

Yes, Microsoft proprietary, SL is just following the rules given by Microsoft...a common place for all apps to put there files/cache/temp...
So may be a pain, but Microsoft wants it that way...and SL is just following the tools Microsoft gives them...
But still agree, they did not have too, or could give the option to move it..

From: someone SL is just following the rules given by Microsoft...a common place for all apps to put there files/cache/temp. On the mac it's ~/library/application support/secondlife/cache which is Apple recommended, but ther'es no reason why we shouldnt be given an option to move it to a faster drive or other location if we want to. Recently I've noticed a huge increase in cache size (no i haven't changed any prefs), and massive disk activity while my machine seems to swap huge amounts of memory in an out. Resulting in rendering delays of over a second and jerky movement. Deleting the cache cures this problem (until it gets huge again). Maybe a new bug ?

do a forum search for "junction", "reparse point" or "symbolic link" or "cache" *grumbles about being able to partition drives but not use forum search* i'm getting sick of this topic.
