Is there some underlying reason why, since you are able to teleport between sims using a landmark, you are unable to do the same with one of the teleport pads such as aubreTEC's Teleport System?

Short answer...

Yes

Long answer...

there is no way whatsoever/ that a scripted object can teleport an avatar.

What you see from teleport objects in game is a cunning workaround.

If you set the sit target on a prim to say that the "seat" is, say, 200m away, then when you sit on it, the game instantly moves you to that point. The script then automatically un-sits you, and presto, there you are. This has a max range of about 300m.

The only other alternative is for the object you "sit" on to move to the destination, with you still attached, then dump you. This has a far greater range, but has issues with sim crossings, and a maximum velocity. (not a fast one) For a good example of this in use, see the shopping carts at Home Depoz - they're fun :)

For a very clear and concise explanation.

Heh. Can't argue with that. :)

Actually, that's not exactly correct. The command llTeleportAgentHome(key id) can. LL keep saying that we can't have llTeleportAgent(key id, string sim, vector location) but in reality, that's just an excuse.

So the answer really is... a scripted object can teleport you home, but can't teleport you anywhere else... yet.

Darnit - I knew I'd forget something.

The good news is, llTeleportAgent is[/is] promised for a future version.

The bad news is, I could have made that same statement back around v1.6 :(
