Up until this last update my SL has been working fine. Even the original 1.12 was okay I think.
But as soon as I installed the updated viewer, this started to go awfully wrong.
Once the new instal was complete, I attempted to log in, and my windows gave me some big warning about some SL cache file being corrupt and unreadable. It did this repeatedly, to the extent where I actually uninstalled SL and all related files from my PC, and reinstalled it.
I then reinstalled windows, and CHKDSK ran to make sure that my HD wasnt fried. It seems all was good on this front.
Then, SL started to log in under the new viewer, but I got yet another error message. This time it was an SL message, telling me my SiS Chipset is out of date. I've never had this message before, so I went looking for answers.
I updated my chipset to the most recent one I could find from my OEM website, and decided to update my nVidia cards drivers while I was in the mood to.
Neither of these seemed to get rid of the error message, so I pushed on past it, ignoring it.
SL seemed to work fine, if not a little bit too babyish for me. It was as if I logged in for the VERY first time. Everything I did gave me some nice little informative pop-up about what I was doing (eg: You just left clicked on an object. You can interact with objects by clicking on them etc etc...).
I also had to go in and reset all of my custom graphics, chat, HUD, memory - basically ALL of my preferences again from scratch.
Then i got booted, and sent off a crash report. Upon logging back in, I had to reenter my name, and redo all the preferences again. And then I got the nice informative pop-ups again.
I saved my preferences (or so I thought) and relogged, only to be met with the same problem - it was as if I had never logged in, or SL wasnt saving my preferences or data anywhere.
I looked in the debug menu on the advice of an estate manager, and found that the "First Run This Install" and "First Login This Install" options were both set to "True". I changed these, and relogged, but still it's like Im logging in for the first time.
It's really proving to be quite annoying, and with the instability of alot of sims I visit, I really dont want to have to be resetting most of the option on every tab in the preferences menu, EVERY time I log into SL.
Has anyone else come across this problem? (i looked back through the topics a bit, but didnt find anything similar)
Also, if this is some simple problem which I am overlooking, can someone tell me which buton to press, or checkbox to check to make sure that my settings are being saved?
Thanks in advance.
